If you've watched "Top Water Mama's" you may find this familiar looking.
Based off of Nicklaus Bauer's awesome top water pike pattern, Howie gets its name from howitzer popper head used on the front hook. The rear hook is slightly weighted which trails just below the surface to entice fish to strike and help with short strikes.
Bucktail, flash and hackle are the main components of this fly which are sparsely tied to help with casting and movement of the fly. Although this is sparsely tied it is heavily accented to give a mottled, contrasting look.
