Grillos Hippie Stomper

Recipe:

Hook: mustad 3906b sizes 10 thru 16 (my preference is a size 14) These are the "nymph/sprout" hook, however anything with a fairly wide gape and a slightly heavier wire will suffice here. Grillos himself recommends the TMC  3761.

Thread: I like a 70 denier thread because you're gonna be smashing some foam down and that's bulky enough, I like to match my thread roughly to the bright colored foam.

Tail: moose mane hairs, sort of 6 to 10 individual hairs, stacked and roughly a hook shank long.

Foam: closed cell 3mm foam. Really any colors here work, go wild. I like the combo of green under black. Cut both strips of foam to roughly the hook gape. Tie in the top color first so when you fold it over itself, you get that right stacking.

Underbody: flashabou, seen here in chartreuse Pearl. 

Wing: Z-lon, antron, mcflylon, whatever kind of poly yarn is closest, I like them in a grey/white for visibility.

Legs: barred flat or round

Hackle: grizzly, slightly oversized for the hook gape.
